A First-Timer's Guide to Bali
Most first-time visitors spend all their time in Seminyak or Kuta and miss what makes Bali special. Base yourself in Ubud for at least two nights to reach the rice terraces and waterfalls before the tour buses arrive — early morning is essential. The Mount Batur sunrise trek is worth the 2am wake-up call. For beaches, look east to Sanur or south to Uluwatu instead of the crowded southwest coast. Renting a scooter is common but risky for new riders; a private driver for the day costs little more and is far safer on Bali's narrow roads.
